Thousands of homeless families living in dangerous temporary accommodation have been forgotten.
After they were made homeless, Sireena and her son Ethan were forgotten and ignored by the council over and over again – for four years. Sireena desperately tried to get them to listen, but they refused to talk to her about the thick mould in their temporary accommodation that was making them both ill. And the number the council gave Sireena to file a complaint was never answered.
That's when Sireena called us, and we stood with her when no one else would. Our London Hub challenged the suitability of Sireena’s home on her behalf and thankfully, now, Sireena and Ethan have a safe, affordable permanent home.
'Shelter fought with us for four years. I'll never forget that,' says Sireena. Now, after years of being let down, they're looking forward to the future at last.
But thousands more families like Sireena’s remain trapped in unsafe accommodation that puts their health in danger. And they must not be forgotten.
We must act now. Donate today to stand with the families who've been forgotten by the system, so they can find a safe home where they can thrive.
